On Solving Pentadiagonal Linear Systems via Transformations

    Get PDF
Many authors have studied numerical algorithms for solving the linear systems of pentadiagonal type. The well-known fast pentadiagonal system solver algorithm is an example of such algorithms. The current paper describes new numerical and symbolic algorithms for solving pentadiagonal linear systems via transformations. The proposed algorithms generalize the algorithms presented in El-Mikkawy and Atlan, 2014. Our symbolic algorithms remove the cases where the numerical algorithms fail. The computational cost of our algorithms is better than those algorithms in literature. Some examples are given in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. All experiments are carried out on a computer with the aid of programs written in MATLAB

A Novel QoS provisioning Scheme for OBS networks

    Get PDF
This paper presents Classified Cloning, a novel QoS provisioning mechanism for OBS networks carrying real-time applications (such as video on demand, Voice over IP, online gaming and Grid computing). It provides such applications with a minimum loss rate while minimizing end-to-end delay and jitter. ns-2 has been used as the simulation tool, with new OBS modules having been developed for performance evaluation purposes. Ingress node performance has been investigated, as well as the overall performance of the suggested scheme. The results obtained showed that new scheme has superior performance to classical cloning. In particular, QoS provisioning offers a guaranteed burst loss rate, delay and expected value of jitter, unlike existing proposals for QoS implementation in OBS which use the burst offset time to provide such differentiation. Indeed, classical schemes increase both end-to-end delay and jitter. It is shown that the burst loss rate is reduced by 50% reduced over classical cloning

A novel ingress node design for video streaming over optical burst switching networks

This paper introduces a novel ingress node design which takes advantage of video data partitioning in order to deliver enhanced video streaming quality when using H.264/AVC codec over optical burst switching networks. Ns2 simulations show that the proposed scheme delivers improved video traffic quality without affecting other traffic, such as best effort traffic. Although the extra network load is comparatively small, the average gain in video PSNR was 5 dB over existing burst cloning schemes, with a maximum end-to-end delay of 17 ms, and jitter of less than 0.35 ms

Although prior research has found differences in costs and financial performance across different types of hospital systems, there has been no systematic study of variations in patient quality of care or safety indicators across different systems. Our study examines whether five main types of health systems - centralized (CHS), centralized physician/insurance (CPIHS), moderately centralized (MCHS), decentralized (DHS), and independent (IHS) - as well as other hospital characteristics are associated with differences in quality of patient care. Data were assembled for 6 years (1995 - 2000) from multiple sources. We used 4 AHRQ risk adjusted inpatient quality indicators (IQIs) and 5 risk-adjusted patient safety indicators (PSIs) as dependent variables. Random effects models were used in the analysis. It was found that the IQI and PSI models have different patterns. In the IQI models, CHS hospitals have lower AMI, CHF, Stroke, and Pneumonia mortality rates than hospitals in other system types. The PSI models did not indicate any systems\u27 effects on adverse event rates. It was also found that system hospitals\u27 compliance with the JCAHO performance area indicator for availability of patient specific information was associated with lower rates of CHF, Stroke, Pneumonia, and Infection due to medical care. The findings suggest that centralization of hospital structures may improve internal clinical processes by enhancing coordination of activities, communication between providers, timely adjustments of processes of care delivery and structures to external pressures. A lack of systems\u27 effect on adverse events may be explained by a newness of the patient safety issues for hospitals and possible changes in reporting patterns of medical errors after the Institute of Medicine report of 1999. A system hospitals\u27 compliance with the JCAHO performance area indicator may indicate improvements in information and clinical record systems.Hospital systems hold much potential for hospitals in improving patient quality of care and safety because they provide a laboratory for studying the health care process and sharing lessons across multiple institutions. Based on our findings, we recommend that future studies use a combination of IQIs and PSIs when examining institutional quality of care because both provide different and complementary information

Six new complexes, [Mn(Br-U)2(H2O)2]×4H2O (1), [Cd(Br-U)2]×2H2O (2), [Cu(Br-U)2(H2O)2]×2H2O (3), [Co(Br-U)2(H2O)2]×4H2O (4), [Ni(Br-U)2(H2O)2]×4H2O (5) and [Ag(Br-U)(Br-U-H)]×2(H2O) (6)  were prepared by the reaction of 5-bromoouracil with MnCl2·4H2O, CdCl2·2.5H2O, CuSO4·5H2O, (CH3COO)2Co·4H2O, (CH3COO)2Ni·4H2O and AgNO3 respectively. The complexes were characterized by melting point, elemental microanalyses, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The obtained data indicated that the ligand interacted with the metal ions in its mononegatively charged enol form in a bidentate fashion. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA and DTG) were also carried out. The data obtained agreed well the proposed structures and showed that the complexes were finally decomposed to the corresponding metal or metal oxide. The ligand and its metal-ion complexes were tested for their antimicrobial activities against four bacterial strains (B. subtillis, S. aureus, E. coli and P. aeruginosa) by the agar-well diffusion technique using DMSO as a solvent. The obtained data showed that the complexes were more potent antimicrobial agents than the parent ligand.               KEY WORDS: 5-Bromoouracil–M2+ complexes, IR, Thermal analyses, 1H NMR, Antimicrobial activity Bull. The effect of antifreeze reagent on seasonal frozen soils

    Get PDF
The design, construction, and maintenance of pile foundations are dependent on special weather conditions in Northern and Central part of Kazakhstan. The winter months in these areas are very long which starts from November to March and the air temperature usually reaches – 40-50°C. These circumstances lead to the seasonal freezing ground, special physical behavior of soil, physical properties of construction materials. The main problem of pile driving in winter is frozen ground which is difficult to excavate and driving. Moreover, the Static Load Tests for estimating the bearing capacity of pile foundations do not show accurate records in frozen soil. To solve the problems mentioned above, a special antifreeze composition has been developed and established its protective effect against soil freezing in winter. The implementation of the proposed method leads to a high productivity of driving reinforced concrete piles without the risk of their destruction. This eliminates the need for additional drilling works and more powerful and expensive rock drills, if the soil is protected from freezing. According to a special formula, the optimal mass of antifreeze is calculated, which allows protecting the soil without harming not only the soil, but also the structure of the concrete pile and the environment. During the static load test, piles driven into soil that had been covered with antifreeze has showed more accurate bearing capacity data. Scientific and experimental studies have established that antifreeze reduces the compressibility of frozen soil
